Maxine Cox Harlan – Obituary

Maxine Cox Harlan age 90 of Florence passed on Tuesday July 24, 2012. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6pm till 8pm at Elkins Funeral Home of Florence. Services will be Friday at Wood Avenue Church of Christ, lying in state from 10am till 11am with services at 11am. Officiating will be Miles Stutts and Kenneth Davis. Song leading will be Dr. Brent Olive and Wesley Sharp. Pallbearers will be Craig Lawson, Wesley Sharp, William Sharp, Trent Harlan, Forrest Harlan and James Senn. Honorary bearers will be Elders and Deacons at Wood Avenue Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Leon “Red” Harlan and her son, Max Cox Harlan. Maxine was survived by one son Tommy Harlan of Florence. Three Daughters, Connie Sharp (Albert) of Florenc e, Janet Lawson (Dennis) of Huntsville and Judy Grubbs (Randy) of Florence. One Daughter-in-law, Dana Harlan. Ten grandchildren, Courtney Grubbs (Si), Christy Kissick (Adam), Craig Lawson (Lauren), Wesley Sharp (Brittany), Casey Harlan, William Sharp, Sibyl, Trent, Forrest and Savanah Harlan. One great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Harlan. She loved her sweet companion pet dog “Missy”. Mrs. Harlan was a devoted wife, a loving Mother, and a affectionate grandmother and a caring friend and a devoted Christian. She was a faithful member at Wood Ave Church of Christ, Ladies Bible class and served on the care groups. She also volunteered for the Red Cross. Maxine was a graduate of Hazel Green High School, Hillman Hospital School of Nursing in Birmingham, which is now UAB. She was a nursing supervisor at ECM hospital for 39 years.
