Funeral services for Mavis East, age 95 of Lineville, will be held on Wednesday May 13, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Rev. David Holcombe and Rev. Brandon Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Lineville City Cemetery.
Mrs. East passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at her home. Born in Altoona, Alabama, she was raised in the Egypt community in Etowah County, and was a graduate of Walnut Grove High School. She worked as a telephone operator in Anniston and for the GE Plant, but worked primarily for Higgins Slacks as a tacker and Seamstress until she retired. Mrs. East enjoyed spending time gardening and tending to her flowers, sewing, going shopping, and baking for her friends and family. She was strict, and strong willed, but was truly loving and caring to her children and grandchildren. She liked to do things her way, and enjoyed being the family supervisor. Mrs. East was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, but attended Mt. Prospect Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
She was survived by three children: James Roger East of Lineville, Gerald Eugene East (Becky) of Ashland, and Vicki East of Lineville; 7 grandchildren, Justin East (Kelli), Jeremy East (Ashley), Shelley Griffin (T.J.), Genia Denham (James), Sady Moore (Hayden), Kelly Williams and Suzy Jordan; eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Harrelson of Cleveland, TN; and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. Harrelson and Ruby Roberts; her husband Gerald East; three brothers, John Alvin Harrelson, Billy Harrelson and Bobby Harrelson; three sisters, Kathleen Adams, Carolyn Harrelson and Gloria Sue Hayes.
Active pallbearers will be Justin East, Jeremy East, James Denham, T.J. Griffin, Allen East, Will Cook and Hayden Moore.
Honorary pallbearers will be Isaac Griffin and Brayson Denham.
Her visitation will take place on Wednesday May 13, 2026 from 12:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville.
