Maudine J. Barron – Obituary

MaudineMaudine J. Barron, age 83, of Meridianville, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013. Maudine was a 1948 graduate of Meek High School in Arley, Alabama. Maudine was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church, North Alabama Antique Automobile Club, and Friendship Force, were she made many trips with her last being to Ghana. Maudine was a renaissance woman. During the war, she worked a job usually reserved for men. She later owned a quilt shop, wrote quilting books, and traveled over seas teaching quilting. On the side, she learned automobile mechanics. She restored antique cars, including the engines, transmissions, and upholstery on vehicles dating from the 1910s to the 1970s. Mrs. Barron is preceded in death by her husband Travis and parents Homer and Eula Johnson. Mrs. Barron is survived by her children, Nancy Sims of Hazel Green, Travis C. Barron II of Hazel Green, and Bill Barron and wife Kathy of Huntsville, her grandchildren Brandon Sims and Travis Barron III; and her great grandchild, Breanna Barron. Her children have lost a guiding light. The family will receive friends on Thursday May 2, 2013 from 5 pm until 8 pm at Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 3, 2013 at 11 am at Lakewood Baptist Church with Pastor Terrell Boyd officiating. Mrs. Barron will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Gardens. In Lieu of Flowers, the family request that donations be made to Lakewood Baptist Church. Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville is assisting the family.
