Mattie Mae Seay Pace – Obituary

Mattie Mae Seay Pace, 86, of Decatur died July 11, 2016 at home. She was born Aug. 7, 1929 in New Burg, Alabama, to the late Lillie Mae and Curtis Seay. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, John Cullen “J.C.” Pace Jr., two sisters, six brothers and two grandsons.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Ann “Pat” Moore (John), Connie Sue Urban (Charles), Beverly Sherrill (Gary); son, Donald Pace (Donna); eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three sisters and one brother.

Pallbearers are Vernon Lane, Jeff Denard, Jerome Pace, Gary Sherrill, Charles Urban and John Moore.

Mattie Mae was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she taught a young girls’ Sunday school class for over 30 years. She loved and worked tirelessly for her family. She will be affectionately remembered for her love of mowing the lawn, gardening and gift of cooking, especially for her fried corn and chicken.

Services will be Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Reverend Chris Martin officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Bus Fund or your favorite charity.
