Mattie L. (Warner) Monteiro, 79, of New Bedford, Massachusetts died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Millard “Bucky” Monteiro.
Born in Decatur, Alabama, the daughter of the late John Henry Warner and Elsie (Wiggins) Bridgeforth, she lived in New Bedford for many years.
Mrs. Monteiro was formerly employed as a supervisor for Harbor Services.
She was a longstanding member of the Union Baptist Church, where she served as a trustee and was the Treasurer of the Missionary Ministry.
She was truly devoted to her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by five children, John Alfred Sanders, Gary Jerome Sanders and his wife, Roberta, Shantina Marie Sanders, Dana Patrice Sanders-Udo, and Anne-Marie Aosa; her siblings, Johnnie Mae Mangrum, James Warner, Hubert Bridgeforth, Betty Carlisle, Anne-Marie Porter, Eugene Bridgeforth, and Bobbie Woodruff; her grandchildren, Gina, Rebecca, Jessica, Jwarne, Theresa, Sharday, Kyle, Gary Jr. , Hannah, Elijah, Zabian, Denzel, Quincy, Comfort, John, Tyreek, Ahrianna, Logan, Lydell; her great-grandson, Christopher; and nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at 3 p.m. at the Union Baptist Church, 109 Court St., New Bedford.
