Mattie “Elizabeth” Sample, age 79 of Fort Payne, formerly of Clanton, Alabama passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 24, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. She was born on January 2, 1945 to the late William Claudin and Ida Lee Vines.

Ms. Elizabeth was an owner/manager/operator of multiple restaurants during her career.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Gene Cleckler (Pamela), Daughter and son-in-law Michelle Fisher (Shawn). Grandchildren: Adam Litsey, Christopher Fisher (Layne), Michael Long (Anne), Alyssa Long, Trevor Cleckler (Emma), Zac Cleckler (Alivia), Chandler Fisher (Brooklyn), Katlyne Fisher, Hunter Fisher, Gavin Cleckler, Myla Cleckler, Halle Cleckler, and Blake Cleckler. She was blessed with 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by Duell Cleckler, Son Michael Cleckler, Father William Claudin Vines, Mother Ida Lee Vines, Brother William Vines, Sister Margie Seales, Sister Myrtis Driver, Sister Rosie Headley.

Pallbearers: Shawn Fisher, Trevor Cleckler, Zac Cleckler, Chandler Fisher, Hunter Fisher, & Gavin Cleckler

A visitation will be held on Thursday April 25, 2024 from 4-7 pm at Wilson Funeral Home in Fort Payne. Funeral service will be held on Friday April 26, 2024 at 10:00 am with Rev. Denny Mashburn officiating. A small graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm at Mount Pisgah-Zion Ridge Cemetery in Clanton, AL.

Wilson Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Payne is in charge of arrangements.
