Matthew Lavern Henderson, age 35, of Decatur, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
He was born in Louisiana on July 5, 1990, to Chris Henderson and Dawn Womack Henderson.
Matthew lived a life filled with imagination, creativity, and passion. He proudly founded a live-action role-playing (LARP) group in Hartselle, a community endeavor he cherished deeply. A devoted fan of Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons, he most recently pursued bladesmithing, finding joy in the craftsmanship and artistry it required. He was a group lead in Maintenance at YKTA, where he spent the past five years, happy to be working with his hands.
Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Jonna Bradford-Henderson; father, Chris Henderson (Kerri); mother, Dawn McCormick (Tim); sister, Deleasa Henderson; niece and nephew, Aubrie Henderson and Nyle Walden; brothers, Michael Henderson (Kate) and John O’Hare (Olivia); grandmother, Doris Clay; aunt, Jo Alexander; and his best friend, Cameron Stiles. He is also survived by numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends who will deeply miss him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held from 3:00PM to 6:30PM, Friday, October 17, 2025 at Wolverine Park, 2430 Point Mallard Drive, SE., Decatur, AL 35601. The Family request to bring your lawn chairs to the Celebration.
