Mr. Matthew “Cookie” Cookston, age 37, of Hollywood, Alabama passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025. He was a passionate, goofy soul who found joy in music, sports, and family. He had a heart of gold, and easy-going, friendly spirit that always made friends. He never met a stranger and had a sense of humor and smile that was contagious. He is, and will always be missed by those who were blessed to know him.
He is survived by his daughters, Madelynn Warren and Abigail Gamble; son, Chance Cookston; parents, Linda (Eric) Cookston, Dexter (Bengy) Austin; brother, Chase Cookston; sister, Erica (Austin) Moyers; niece, Rhiley Moyers; grandparents, Frank and Gladys Adkins, Carolyn Austin Starr, Melissa Cookston; best friend, Angel Valdez; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Kip Cookston and Motley Cookston; grandpas, Jimmy Cookston and Dexter Austin Sr.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Sawyers, and Rev. Austin Moyers officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family of the late Mr. Matthew “Cookie” Cookston will receive friends on Monday, February 3, 2025 beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
