Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Victoria Hurst Yates Land, age 87 of Delta, will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Union D Baptist Church with Rev. Eugene Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Land passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at her home. She was born in the Shinbone Community, and had lived in Clay County for most of her life. She was a textile worker for a number of years but spent most of her life as a housewife and mother. She loved watching Alabama Football, Atlanta Braves Baseball, and attending Gospel Singings. Mrs. Land also enjoyed sewing and quilting, shopping, and being with her children, grandkids and great-grandkids. She was a member of Union D. Baptist Church
Mrs. Land is survived by two sons: Robert Yates (Wanda) and Scot Yates (Sandy), both of Shinbone; 5 grandchildren: Nikki Grace Yates, Tessa Ware, Tessa Victoria Yates Giddens (Josh), Logan Yates, and Corey Giles (Rebecca); 14 great-grandchildren: Clay Yates, Ensleigh, Stevie Victoria, and Brynna Giddens, Miller and Maddox Yates, Lauren Jones, Halden and Brynley Giles, Ashlyn Harrell, Cassidy and Lucas Giles, Mariah Santana and Alanis Lillo; 3 sisters: Gladys Conner, Hazel Burt (Marshall), and Bernice Miller; two brothers: James Hurst (Joan) and Jerry Hurst (Diane), all of Shinbone; plus a large extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents: General Dewey Hurst and Lydia Ophelia Sasnett Hurst; her husbands, Clayton Yates and James Land; one daughter, Patsy Yates Seale; three grandchildren: Brandon Yates, Wade Giles, and Tina Giles; three sisters: Margie Dingler, Hilta Mae Morrow, and Ethel Bell; and one brother, Harce B. Hurst.
Active Pallbearers will be Tyler Hurst, Josh Giddens, Clay Yates, Logan Yates, Lucus Giles, and Corey Giles.
Her visitation will take place on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville from 5:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. She will lie in state for one hour at Union D Baptist Church on Friday, March 11th from 12:00 P.M. until service time at 1:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Hospice of Clay County, P.O. Box 1270, Ashland, AL 36251, or the Shinbone Volunteer Fire Department.
