Lyndon and I have been friends since childhood. When we were children, we picked cotton for Talmadge and Mary would always prepare a very delicious meal for us. They were salt-of-the-earth people. Mary was always kind and gracious to us aggravating young’ns. This family was part of a network that provided a safe and wholesome environment for children to grow up in. Sometimes our hide and feelings got skint but the experiences molded us into what we needed to be to deal with the world. The experiences and memories of seventy years have deepened my appreciation for my neighborhood pals: Lyndon Letson, Alton & Buddy Lang, Jimmy Jones, Marion Lee Cartee, Alton and Lance, Jr. Cleveland, the Rutherfords, the Kellys, the Hills across the road and my brothers just to name some of them. I shall always love the memories of Talmadge and Mary. Their lives were precious to so many and to us. We want Lyndon and Marva to know how blessed we are to call you our friends. With love and sympathy.
