MaryMary Ruth (Siegfried) McKinney of Huntsville passed away on April 11, 2014. She was 93. She was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Jarmon Clayton (Mac) McKinney, Jr. She is survived by her three sons, Philip M. McKinney (Tricia) of Ocean Ridge, Florida, William J. McKinney (Jill) of Lexington, Kentucky, and Raymond A. McKinney (Jane) of Hurricane, West Virginia; seven grandchildren, Megan Atterbury (Richard) of Wilmington, North Carolina, Colin McKinney (Laura) of Palm City, Florida, Andrew McKinney (Simona) of Boynton Beach, Florida, Ryan McKinney (Talitha) of Palatine, Illinois, Katherine McKinney of Arlington, Virginia, John McKinney of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jordan McKinney of Columbia, South Carolina; and nine great-grandchildren, Campbell and Curren Atterbury, Hudson and Grady McKinney, Isabel, Lydia, and Evelyn McKinney and Charlie and Blake McKinney. Additionally, she is survived by her nephews John and Chuck Evans and her nieces Harriet Dupuy and Susan DeFoor, who were very close.

She was born on March 30, 1921 in Allentown, Pennsylvania and moved to Birmingham, Alabama with her parents and sister Elizabeth (deceased) as a young girl. Following graduation from West End Senior High School, she attended Montevallo College and was graduated with a degree in social work. She worked in Birmingham until marrying the love of her life Jarmon in 1944. Mr. and Mrs. McKinney moved to Huntsville in 1956. Mrs. McKinney was a long time substitute teacher at Whitesburg Elementary School and served many years as a volunteer librarian at Whitesburg Baptist Church. For over 30 years she led a group of women from her “Seekers” Sunday school class for weekly visits to minister to patients in a local nursing home. She leaves many special friends at her church and her most recent home at Brookdale Place in Huntsville.

Visitation will be at the Whitesburg Baptist Church’s South Campus Chapel, 7300 Whitesburg Drive, Huntsville AL on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 10 AM, followed by funeral services beginning at 11 AM.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be sent to one’s favorite charity.
