Mary Olene Saylor Pierce, age 100, of the Hulaco community, passed away at her residence on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Mary was born at home on Saylor Circle in the Ruth Community of Marshall County, Alabama on July 25, 1923. She was one of nine children born to Luther Arnold Saylor and Pearl McGuire Saylor, all who preceded her in death. She was the widow of Mr. Ralph “Bunk” Pierce who passed away July 19, 1986. The two celebrated 43 years together. Mary was a homemaker who took pride in creating a loving home for her family. Her family looked to her as the backbone of the extended family and the love between them was all mutual. They loved her as much as she loved them. She was a member of the Hebron Church of Christ. She contributed her long life of 100 years to her hard work and her belief in God.
Mary had a long and eventful life. She lived through events that most people today only read about in history books. But as most of her generation, she learned to work hard (picked a lot of cotton) but learned to enjoy the simple but worthwhile aspects of living. Family was her chief priority. She had a variety of talents and interest including sewing, quilting, gardening (yellow roses), traveling to see lighthouses and covered bridges, and cooking (banana pudding).
Family left to cherish their sweet memories of Mary include: children, Kathy (Ray) Ramsour, Judy (Bill) Tuetken and Johnnie (Delora) Pierce; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren.
Preceding Mary in death include: husband, Bunk Pierce; parents, Luther and Pearl Saylor; infant son, Mickey Pierce; brothers, Lawrence Saylor, Leman Saylor, John L. Saylor, Frank Saylor, Joe Saylor; sisters, Ruby Bailey, Ruth Darmer and Mae Knowles.
The family has elected cremation with no public service.
