Mary Marguerite Burgess Glasscock, 88, went home to heaven on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014. She died at her daughter’s home in Ocala, Florida, where she had been under Hospice care.

Marguerite Burgess was born on May 5, 1926, in Florence, Alabama, to a wonderful family. Raised in Florence, she graduated from Coffee High School in 1944 and married the love of her life, Arnold Glasscock, on Easter Sunday 1946. They were happily married for 46 years and were the proud parents of a daughter, Cheryl. The family moved to Bartow, Florida, in 1956 and soon became active members of First Baptist Church of Bartow where Marguerite worked as church secretary. In later years, she was a supervisor for the Polk County School Board offices and taught at Traviss Vocational School. After Arnold passed away in 1992, she became a volunteer at Bartow Regional Medical Center and continued to faithfully serve her church. Marguerite also had a special bond with her granddaughter who cherished time spent with her. When her health declined, she came to live with her daughter in Ocala in 2008. Marguerite was devoted to her loved ones and beloved by all who knew her. She was a beautiful soul with a kind heart and a strong Christian faith and was blessed with a long and happy life.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, James Arnold Glasscock, and her parents, T. R. and Mattie Burgess.

She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Glasscock Murphy, of Ocala; a granddaughter, Melody Murphy, of Ocala; a sister, Jerry Burgess Martin (Nooner), of Florence, Alabama; a niece, Dawn Martin Burnham (Ken); great-nephews, Jacob, Jared, and Joshua Burnham; and great-niece, Lydia Marguerite Burnham, of Mobile, Alabama; and many other loving relatives and friends.
