Mary Kathleen Hellums Mary “Kathleen” Taunton Hellums was born and raised in East Tallassee, Alabama on April 28, 1937 to Mary and Jerry Taunton. At the age of 5, Mary married Dewitt Jordan who raised Kathleen as his own.
She later married Donald Spitzner and they had 5 children. He passed away and she later married Bill Hellums and they had 4 more children.
She was well known as the best waitress at Ray’s Café. She waited tables there for 23 years where she met and became friends with many many people. When she left Ray’s Café, she became a sitter with Home Health and cared for several individuals before eventually retiring.
A faithful member of The Rose Road Church of God, she proudly supported her pastor and loved all of the fellow church members. She loved Jesus and was not afraid to tell everyone about her Savior.
Kathleen was proceeded in death by her parents Mary and Dewitt Jordan, her son and daughter in law, Dean and Angie Hellums, and daughter in law Naomi Spitzner, and granddaughter, Marissa Hellums.
She is survived by her brother, Dan (Pat) Jordan, children Candice Spitzner, Dorothy Beam, Calvin (Kathy) Spitzner, Donna (Michael) Gunter, Roger Spitzner, Wayne Mannich, Lucretia (Bill) Davis, and Rebecca (Mike) Frolik. 13 grandchildren, Charlotte Coffen, Nathan Beam, Rachel (Jason) Pettus, Daniel Gunter, Kimberly (Mitchell) Brogdon, Dagon Hellums, Emily Hellums, Amber Davis, Meagan Davis, Caleb Davis, Makayla Frolik, and Brandon Frolik. 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great- great grandchild.
Her funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2024 at Rose Road Church of God. She will be laid to rest at Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 1:00 at the church. Bro. Lewis Smith and Bro. Michael Williams will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Daniel Gunter, Jason Pettus, Mitchell Brogdon, Dagon Hellums, Nathan Beam and Chase Beam.
