Mary Jo Motes, age 83, of Phil Campbell, passed from this life on Monday, December 01, 2025, at Burns Nursing Home.
Humble, gracious, God-fearing, loving, compassionate, gentle, and admirable are just a few of the words that we can use to describe Mary Jo Motes. She worked hard all of her life at Kelwood, Wrangler Distribution Center and many years working alongside David at Akins Funeral Home, meeting the families with a hug and a smile. Mary Jo was the most caring and giving person, always giving her heart, soul and time. She adopted all her nieces & nephews and treated them like they were her children. She loved working in her flowers and had a real green thumb in making them grow. Mary Jo was a devout Christian, a real prayer warrior, and her faith has been made whole.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Kaye Scott; daughter-in-law, Pam Motes; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death her husband, David Motes; son, Rickey Randall Childers; parents, Hardy & Arnova (Gober) Scott; and siblings, Bill Scott, Wayne Scott, Sonny Scott, E. Scott.
The visitation will be 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 06, 2025, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. John McCullar, who is officiating the service. The burial will be at Blue Springs Cemetery. The pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff of Burns Nursing Home for your love and care shown to Mary Jo. Also, we want to thank Hospice of North Alabama for your love and care.
