Mary Jo Gibbs Couch – Obituary

Mary Jo Gibbs Couch, 94, died Sunday, May 25, 2014, in Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, Alabama, with the funeral following at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Tuscumbia’s Oakwood Cemetery. 

The Rev. Barrett Long will officiate. 

Mrs. Couch was born on July 6, 1919, to Thomas and Katherine Gibbs. She graduated from Deshler High School and Florence State Teachers College and taught elementary school in Colbert County. She lived in Tuscumbia for most of her life and was married to Bernard Couch, her husband of 61 years. She was preceded in death by her husband and her grandson, John Bernard Couch. Mary Jo was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tuscumbia. 

She is survived by her sons, Thomas J. Couch and wife, Mayme, of Jackson, Mississippi, and Dr. Robert H. Couch and wife, Wilma, of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Thomas J. Couch Jr and wife, Tiffany, of Jackson, Mississippi, Tamyne Couch Armour and husband, Rob, of Madison, Mississippi, Christy Couch Echols and husband, Robert, of Nashville, Tennessee, Mary Claire Couch, of Arlington, Virginia, and Julia Ann Couch, of Nashville, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, John Thomas Couch, of Oxford, Mississippi, Payton Couch, of Jackon, Mississippi, Larisa Armour, Nikoli Armour, and Patrick Armour, all of Madison, Mississippi, and Bert Echols, Anna Echols, and Mayme Echols, all of Nashville, Tennessee. 

Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 203 N. Dickson St., Tuscumbia, AL 35674.
