Mary JMrs. Mary Jewel Black Fleet, 97, of Bolivar, passed from this life early Friday morning, November 22, 2013, at Pine Meadows Healthcare in Bolivar.

Mrs. Fleet was born September 2, 1916 and raised in the Cloverport community. Her parents were the late Herman Amos Black and Nora Elizabeth Pirtle Black. She was the fifth of six children and outlived all her siblings. She married the late George Rufus Fleet and moved to Bolivar, where she lived her entire life.

She was a wonderful person and the best of mothers. She loved her children more than anything and her life of service to her fellowman and her children was what she lived for. She always thought of everyone else first and herself last. She was a sweet, kind and loving person.

She loved all children and the neighborhood children would always flock to our house and yard because they knew mother welcomed them and with her it was “the more, the merrier.” She loved every minute of it.

Her life was hard and difficult but you never saw her get mad or angry with any situation. She always had the patience of Job.

She was a member of the church of Christ and attended the Bolivar church until her illness prevented her from attending. She leaves behind four children, Barry (Betty) Fleet, Jackie Fleet, Connie Maroney and Fran (Joe) Shelton; six grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Our mother was one of a kind and was known as “Jewell” all her life. She truly was a “jewel,” one that can never be replaced.

Mother, we love you and will always miss you being in our lives. Now you can rest and be free from all the pain.

God bless you, our sweet, wonderful mother!
