Mary Jean Newby Duncan age 79 of Athens, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Athens Health and Rehab. Ms. Duncan was born January 1, 1939 in Limestone County, AL to Claude Mason Newby, Jr. and Mary Frances Elmore Newby.
Services will be Saturday, May 12, 2018, 10:00 a.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Tony Jones and Candace Perry officiating. Visitation will be Friday, May 11, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery.
Ms. Duncan was a member of First Baptist Church in Athens, and sang in the Church Choir. She was a charter member and past President of Athens Ladies Civitan Club. She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 49 and was Girls State Chair Person. She was a Realtor and the first female International Realtor in North AL. She was a former member of Athens Limestone County Tourism Association and on Board of Directors. She loved to travel, loved her job and Coco her dog.
Preceded in death by her parents; great-grandchild, Saylor Vickers; brother, Gilbert Newby.
Survived by one son, Victor Duncan and wife, Lorraine of Athens; two daughters, Julie Moudy and Candace Perry and husband, Russ both of Athens; six grandchildren, Rebecca Mealer and husband, Nick, Corey Rea and wife, Stephanie, Paige Vickers and husband, Seth, Shelby Rea Gurganus and husband, Andrew, Joshua Moudy and Anna Grace Duncan; six great-grandchildren, Abigail Duncan, Keileigh Perry, Braelynn Rea, Scarlett Vickers, Landon Rea and Madison Rea; siblings, Claudene Dean, Paul Newby and wife, June, Billy Wayne Newby, Mike Newby and wife, Brenda and Carolyn Barley and husband, Ray.
Pallbearers will be Corey Rea, Seth Vickers, Nick Mealer, Jeff Mooneyham, Andrew Gurganus and Ken Newby. Honorary pallbearers will be Victor Duncan, Joshua Moudy and David Moudy.
