Mary Jane McCord Mitchell, of Midfield, Ala., completed her mortal life at the age of 87 on December 14, 2013.
She was raised in Sheffield, Ala., by Robert Bruce McCord and Myrtle Forsythe McCord. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert; sister, Dorothy Stansell; and husband, James (Jim) Ellis Mitchell Sr., of Tuscumbia, Ala. Jane was a 62-year resident of Midfield and served on the city council, zoning board and presided over the Midfield Polling station. Her hobbies included gardening and bowling. She was involved in bowling leagues within the Alabama Women’s Bowling Association (AWBA) and the Greater Birmingham Women’s Bowling Association (GBWBA). Jane is survived by five children, James (Jim) E. Mitchell Jr. and his wife, Sylvia, of Fairfield Highlands, Ala., Robert (Bob) B. Mitchell and his wife, Belinda, of Nashville, Tenn., Steve R. Mitchell and his wife, Martha, of Birmingham, Ala., Guy E. Mitchell of Maylene, Ala. and Jayna M. Parris and her husband, Keith, of Kennesaw, Ga; as well as 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Elmwood Chapel with funeral services to begin at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
