Mary Helen Harris, 84, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at her home. She was born in the Macedonia Community to Percy and Ovie Price Witt. She grew up in the Macedonia Baptist Church where her mother played the organ and her father was a deacon. She attended school in Sherman. Helen loved to travel and enjoyed watching game shows, especially Jeopardy. Helen married Leroy Harris, Sr. in December of 1948. While her husband was in the military they moved around during their younger married life. She worked from home raising her children and helping her husband with his businesses when needed.
Survivors include her children, Donna Kathleen Long (Robert) of Tupelo, Stephen Lee Harris of New Albany and Leroy Harris, Jr. of Saltillo; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Juanita Bolen, Sara Montgomery, Dorothy Brock, and Ouida Thomas.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Sherman Cemetery with Rev. Jim Yates officiating.
