Mary Evelyn Allen McClain, 88, of Florence, passed away July 13, 2024. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 17 at Williams Funeral Home from 10:00 – 11:00 am. The service will start at 11:00 am in the chapel with Brother James Gray, Brother Mark Allen, Brother Michael Johnson, and Brother Lathaniel Garner officiating. Burial will follow in Bailey Chapel Cemetery.
Mary was born to the late Preston Allen, Sr., and Carrie Lee Chisholm Allen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim McClain and daughter, Pamela Sue McClain. Also preceding are siblings, James Preston Allen Jr., Robert B. Allen, Harry Neal Allen, Marie Allen Bailey, Dorothy Esther Allen Ward, Pauline Allen Collier Burns, Carrie Lucille Allen Liles, Virginia Lee Allen Oates, Maudie Reba Allen Bailey, Howard Earl Allen, and Willie Katherine Allen.
Mary and Jim adopted three children, Patricia McClain, Pamela McClain (deceased), and Jerome McClain. She had 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mary worked as a CNA, a foster parent to many children, and was a home maker.
