Mary Eva Honey Cramer – Obituary

Mary Eva Honey Cramer, 87, of Huntsville, departed this life Monday, March 26, 2018.  Mrs. Cramer was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Vernon Earnest; her parents, Mildred Lena Gerbige Honey and Frank Clark Honey, her brother, Herbert Honey; and her sister, Betty Honey.  Mary was born in Larkinsville, Alabama, in Jackson County and moved with her family to Huntsville at age 10.

She attended public school in Huntsville, graduating from Huntsville High School in 1952.  She attended Calhoun College and the University of Alabama, Huntsville.  Mary had a strong work ethic and began her career as a young girl, working in retailing at the Mary Shoppe and J.C. Penney on the square in downtown Huntsville.  She was later employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company, NASA, and Parisian’s.  She retired from the U.S. Army Materiel Command as a Logistics Support Manager Representative at Redstone Arsenal in 1993 and was very proud to serve her country in this position.

Mary enjoyed her life with Vernon, her children, and her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Honey.”  She loved gardening and beautiful flowers.  Mary was a devoted member of Mayfair Church of Christ.

Being a cancer survivor, Mary was happy to participate in cancer research at Vanderbilt’s Ingram Cancer Center.

Survivors include her son, Vernon Kent Cramer and wife, Tracy Ives Cramer, of Birmingham; daughter, Kristi Cramer Martin and husband, Thomas Gregory (Greg) Martin, of Columbia, TN; grandson, Thomas Young (Ty) Martin III of Nashville, TN; granddaughter, Cramer Hart Martin, of Nashville, TN; brothers, James Edward Honey and his wife, Vivian Honey, of Hazel Green and Clark Honey of FL; brother-in-law, Robert Edward Cramer, Sr. and his wife, Mazzie Cramer; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.  The family would like to extend special thanks to Mary’s loving friend and caregiver, Brenette Gardner.

Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 31st, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Jason Bybee officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clearview Cancer Institute, 3601 CCI Drive, Huntsville, Alabama, 35805, or to a favorite charity.
