Mary Elizabeth Veath Nystrom – Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Veath Nystrom, 71, known as Betsy to her family and friends, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Sanctuary Hospice House after an illness of one and half years. Betsy was an Illinois native, born January 24, l945 in Carpentersville, Illinois to the late Frank Veath and Mary Stewart Veath. She graduated from Dundee High School in Dundee, Illinois and married Craig Allan Nystrom in Chicago on Nov. 19, 1968. She and Craig lived in Illinois and Wisconsin before moving to the Tupelo area 32 years ago. Her literary appetite was insatiable and led to a lifetime of reading and exposure to good literature. She was blessed to work as Manager of Books A Million for many years. A doting “Nanna and “Mom Mom” to her granddaughters, Hannah and Maddie, she and Craig traveled after retirement and Disney World was one of her favorite places to visit. She experienced a child’s fascination for the Magic Kingdom. She and Craig attended The Orchard locally.
A memorial service will be held in the Spring and will be announced. Holland Funeral Directors/Cremations is honored to be serving the family.
Betsy is survived by those she loved most; her husband of 48 years, Craig of Tupelo. Her daughter, Amy Newsom and husband, Rod and their children, Hannah and Maddie of Tupelo. A son, Craig Nystrom, Jr and his wife, Terri of Mundelein, Ill. Her sibings, Holly Veath Radzik and husband, Chris of Crystal Lake, Ill and David Veath and his wife, Colleen of Huntley, Ill.
To honor her love of reading and learning, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Lee County Library, 219 North Madison St., Tupelo, MS. 38804
