MARCH 20, 1945 – APRIL 10, 2020
Kathleen Smallwood lost her mother Mary “Betsy” Schickley to cancer complications on 10 April 2020. The hospital’s COVID19 restrictions kept Kathleen’s family from comforting her mother the way they wanted to in her final weeks. Despite the unique challenges we all face, the family wants to provide their mother and grandmother the end of life tribute she deserves.
A drive up Memorial Service will be offered at Valhalla Funeral Home on 17 April 2020 from 1000-1200. Cars will be ushered into a receiving line. Those offering their condolences will drive up and be greeted from a safe distance by Kathleen’s family while remaining in your cars. While handshakes and comforting hugs will be replaced by head nods and virtual hugs, this unique protocol will allow Kathleen and her family to provide Mary a meaningful and loving tribute in these trying times. The family encourages the continued use of all your health safety equipment even while attending this event – they do not want to jeopardize or lose any other loved ones.
