Mary Elizabeth Owen Chamness age 89 of Athens, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at her residence. Mrs. Chamness was born October 11, 1923 in Limestone County to Joseph P. Owen and Omie Stewart Owen.
Graveside services will be Friday, June 28, 2013 11:30 a.m., at Athens City Cemetery with Scott Pepper officiating. Visitation will be Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Chamness was a member of Bethel Church of Christ, and retired from NASA.
Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Omie Owen; son, Billy Williams; brother, James Price Owen.
Survived by her husband, Leo E. Chamness of Athens; two daughters, Linda Kilpatrick and husband, Horace of Auburn, AL and Vickie Goode of Athens; son, Bobby Joe Williams and wife, Wilda of Cullman, AL; two sisters, Margie Phillips of Athens and Peggy Wagnon and husband, Mahlon of Toney, AL; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
