Mary Elizabeth Mack, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 96, just one day shy of her 97th birthday. Born to Claude and Nellie Hines, Mary was a woman of remarkable character, known for her caring nature, thoughtfulness, and unwavering dedication to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience.
Mary’s life was a testament to the power of love and perseverance. She raised her three children, Bobbie, Rick and Donna, while balancing a fulfilling career as an Accounting Supervisor at NASA. Her professional journey was marked by significant milestones, including the unforgettable experience of witnessing the launch of Apollo 11. Mary cherished the memories of NASA picnics and the excitement of the Saturn V engine tests, which brought her family together in joy and pride.
In 1989, Mary faced the unimaginable loss of her husband, Robert V. Mack, after 33 years of marriage. Despite this tragedy, she continued to embody strength and grace, finding new joy in the lives of her two beautiful grandchildren, Nikki and Daniel. Her love for them was boundless, and she rarely missed a ball game, recital, or art show, always eager to support and celebrate their achievements.
Mary’s passion for gardening was a reflection of her nurturing spirit. She found joy in tending to her backyard, growing fresh produce for her family, and creating delicious freezer jams that became a cherished tradition. Her love for the outdoors extended to her fondness for the beach, where she relished every opportunity to soak in the sun and create lasting memories with her family.
A woman of vigor, Mary maintained an active lifestyle well into her 90s, working out at the gym three times a week and hiking to the top of Diamond Head during a trip to Hawaii. Her competitive spirit shone through in her love for bowling, jigsaw puzzles, and card games, where she was known to call out any misplays with a playful laugh.
Mary’s generosity and love for Christmas were legendary. She delighted in wrapping gifts and creating a festive atmosphere, ensuring her family experienced the joy of the season. Her home was always filled with laughter, love, and the aroma of her delicious meals, as she took pride in cooking for her family and hosting gatherings by the pool and at the lake.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Robert, her parents, and her siblings, Mary is survived by her children, Bobbie Mack, Ricky Mack (Alan), and Donna Ryberg (Tim); grandchildren, Nikki Allen (Louis) and Daniel Ryberg (Genie); and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Allen and Isabella Ryberg. Her legacy as a devoted family provider, a loving mother, and a doting grandmother will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
Mary Elizabeth Mack will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories, and she will always be remembered as a strong, caring, and thoughtful woman who brought joy to everyone around her.
A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
