Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Lockhart – Obituary

Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Lockhart, 81, passed away July 28, 2017, with her brother, Buddy, by her side. A native of Haleyville, Alabama, Libby was the daughter of the late Fannie and John Lockhart. She was born in Russellville on December 22, 1935. Libby attended school in Haleyville and was a graduate of Haleyville High School. She received the American Legion “For God and Country” school award in recognition of courage, leadership, honor, service and scholarship.

Libby worked for many years in the legal profession as a secretary with the law firms of Elwood Rultledge, Joe James and Hobson Manasco. She also served as a dedicated employee of the American Red Cross. Libby was a member of Baptist Church of Haleyville and was active in the Haleyville Chamber of Commerce. Upon retirement, she relocated to Birmingham and became a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church.

Libby was preceded in death by her parents, Fannie and Lockhart of Haleyville; brothers, Bill Lockhart of Florence and Jim Lockhart of St. Louis, Missouri; sisters, Geraldine Thomas of Haleyville, Doris Taylor of Florence and Barbara Price of Hawkinsville, Georgia.

She is survived by her beloved brother, Buddy (Joyce) Lockhart of Birmingham and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the Family will begin at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday August 2, 2017 at Pinkard Funeral Home, Haleyville, AL. A Memorial Service in Celebration of Libby’s life will follow at 11:00 A.M.
Interment will be at Winston Memorial Cemetery during a private ceremony prior to visitation.

In Lieu of Flowers, the Family requests memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
