Mary Elaine Waldrop Vail, age 70, of Vernon, AL, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at NMMC in Hamilton, AL. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at 3:30pm from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Oakes Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Vernon, AL. Pastor Aaron Lane will officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the funeral service from 2:30pm until 3:30pm.
Pallbearers will be John Smith, Justin Abrams, Carter Abrams, Joey Vail, Harold Partain, and Danny West.
Mary was born on November 25, 1955 in Vernon, AL, to the late Norman and Biddie Waldrop. She was a 1974 graduate of Lamar County High School and a devoted employee of Chromolax for over 25 years until its closure. Mary was a dedicated member of Vibrant Church, where she enjoyed serving as a greeter, and a former faithful member of Oakes Chapel Baptist Church. She was known for her servant’s heart, her steady presence, and her willingness to contribute wherever she was needed. She was always ready to step in and help her family with their small business, offering her time, encouragement, and support without hesitation. Mary especially loved visiting the beach and the mountains, finding peace and joy in God’s creation.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband and best friend of 52 years, Larry; one sister, Maelene Collins (Floyd) of Winfield, AL; and two brothers, Bennie Waldrop (Delores) of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Wallace Waldrop of Vernon, AL. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Wiggins (Mitch) of Caledonia, MS; two precious grandchildren whom she loved and adored, Sydney Wiggins and Matthew Wiggins of Caledonia, MS; one brother, Ray Waldrop (Sharon) of Vernon; sisters-in-law, Mary Waldrop of Vernon and Sandra Smith (John) of Vernon; brother-in-law, Joey Vail (Kim) of Vernon; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family, other relatives, and friends.
