Mary Denise “Neice” Gurley Swindle, 59, of Cordova, passed away Friday, January 27, 2017, at her residence.

She was the first female volunteer firefighter and better known as First Lady of Argo, serving for 20 years.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 29, 2017, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held Monday, January 30, 2017, from noon to 1 p.m. at Argo Church of Christ. Funeral services will follow at the church. Burial will be at Sardis on River Road in Cordova following the funeral. Daniel Rogers, Terry Jo Whitlow and Robert Tyree will officiate.

Mrs. Swindle was preceded in death by her father, Hoover Gilbert Gurley; mother, Bertha Jean Head Gurley; daughter, Stacey Davis; sister, Janice Deason; and daughter-in-law, Jamie Swindle.

She is survived by her husband, Issac Thomas Swindle of Cordova; daughter, Vallery Shipp (Dennis); sons, Matthew Swindle and Michael Swindle (Michelle); sisters, Dianne Gurley and Donna Gurley; brother, Michael Gurley; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
