Mary Dean Shumate, 79 of Athens, Alabama died on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at Athens-Limestone Hospital in Athens, Alabama.
Born Saturday, August 24, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Wright McConnell and the late Bessie Beatrice South McConnell. She was preceded in death by her parents and liked to sing and dance. She also enjoyed housekeeping.
Surviving are sons, Jeffery (Connie) Lewter of Shepherdsville, KY and Mark Shumate of Murfreesboro, TN, daughter, Patricia Lewter of Fairdale, KY, brothers, Walter Lee McConnell of Rome, GA and Larry McConnell of Albany, GA, sisters, Robbie (McConnell) Hayes of Ardmore, AL, Linda Faulk of Ardmore, AL, Faye Eakes of Huntsville, AL and Carrie McConnell of Ardmore, AL, one granddaughter: Jessica & John Eveland and great-grandchildren: John Isaac Eveland, Jeffery Thomas Eveland, Gregory Paul Eveland, and Graham Chang Eveland.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 14, 2015, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Alabama with Bro. Lynn Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, AL.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Alabama.
