Mary Ann Tirey, 75, of Florence passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Mitchell Hollingsworth. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at Elkins Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
She was a graduate of Tech High School in Memphis, TN where she was a member of the National Honor Society, a cheerleader and DAR Representative in her senior year. During the 1970’s she enjoyed working for Coppercraft Guild and became a top sales person. During the 1990’s she co-owned and operated the family business, The Golf Bag. Mrs. Tirey was a member of the First Baptist Church of Florence and was active in WMU and many other church activities. She loved her flower gardens and spent many hours tending to them.
Mrs. Tirey is survived by her husband of 57 years, Tom Tirey; daughters, Charlotte T. Elliott (Ward) of Riner, VA and Terri T. Weaver (David) of Richmond, VA; son, Thomas H. Tirey, Jr. of San Antonio, TX; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Wells and Shirley Spears; brothers, Charles Gallarno and Ed Gallarno; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Flora Gallarno and two brothers, Dan and David Gallarno.
Pallbearers will be David Weaver, Will Weaver, Ward Elliott and Bill Nunnelly. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeff Stewart and the Wayne Wheeler Bible Class.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Florence Building Fund; 209 N Walnut Street; Florence, AL 35630.
