Mary Ann Jernigan Easter, 74, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Diversicare Nursing and Rehab in Amory. She was born on May 29, 1948 in Monroe County to Marvin and Margaret Dodson Jernigan. Mary Ann grew up in Hatley and on October 13, 1964, she married Louis Easter. At a young age, she quit school to raise her sister, then raised her own four children along with her nieces, nephews, and her three granddaughters. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a seamstress at Red Kap and she also owned and operated Granny’s Place diner in Okolona for many years. Family was the center of Mary Ann’s life and she liked nothing better than a steak supper with them on Friday nights and then go to Tupelo on Saturday. She had a great love for the Lord and had an inviting personality, never meeting a stranger. She would open her home up to anyone and as a great cook, she was widely known for her tater tot casserole. A huge Elvis Presley fan, she also liked to listen to country music. Her traits will live on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 1 p.m. at New Hope Cemetery with Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
She is survived by two sons, Chris Easter (Janet) of Hatley and Tony Easter (Melissa) of Smithville; daughter, Myra Mitchell (Kerry) of Smithville; two sisters, Brenda Griggs of Mooreville and Janice Warren (William) of Amory; 8 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Louis Easter, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Tina Easter; granddaughter, Tiffany Franks; great grandchild, Bentley Franks; and two brothers, Larry Jernigan and Greely Jernigan.
Pallbearers will be Adrian Mitchell, Austin Mitchell, Dustin Welch, and A.J. Griffin.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 11 until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
