Mary Ann Howes Stokes, age 80, of Gurley, AL passed away Wednesday April 15, 2015 at Huntsville Hospital. She was born in Groveland, FL. She worked as a school teacher in the Santa Rosa County Schools. Since her retirement she volunteered at the library and as a tutor. She sang in the choir at her church. She was a wonderful and much loved wife and mother. Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by her parents Carson and Lydia Howes; sisters Betty Konsler and Nell Howes Johnson; brother Carson Thomas Howes, Jr. and grandson Derek Randall Stokes. She is survived by her husband Ray C. Stokes; son Buddy Stokes of Brownsboro, AL; daughter Marguerite (Maggie) Stokes Mclean of Pensacola, FL; brother Dan Howes of Mulberry, FL; sister Helen Swails of Fernandina Beach, FL and grandchildren Aimee Redd of Avalon Beach, FL, Christy Bean of Pace, FL and Daniel Stokes of Brownsboro, AL and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
