Mary Alice Millwood Wright, 83, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Greenhouses at Traceway. She was born May 6, 1934 to the late Osborn and Ethel Davis Smith in Tupelo.
Mary Alice spent 30 years working at TKE’s drug store and 10 years in the North Mississippi Medical Center gift shop. She loved helping others as she volunteered at Gentiva Hospice. Mary Alice also enjoyed watching Christian Broadcast Television and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Northeast Church of Christ in Tupelo.
Survivors include daughters, Beverly Gillespie (Tim) of Blue Springs, Diane Hill (Sonny) of Pontotoc and Melissa Shackleford (Ricky) of Mooreville; step-sons, Charles Wright, Jr. and Perry Wright; sisters, Earline Dickerson of Mooreville and Patricia Putt of Mantachie; grandchildren, Bryan Gillespie (Jennifer) of Baldwyn, Casey Gillespie (Tina) of Blue Springs, Chris Hinds of Guntown; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 57 years, James “Buddy” Millwood; second husband, Charles Wright, Sr.; brother, Leon Smith; and sister, Yvonne Pettigrew.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors with Ministers Trey Haskett and Leon Willis officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 and noon until service time Sunday, September 10 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Smith, Tim Smith, Derrick Rushing and Jeff Fowler.
Honorary pallbearers will be Casey Gillespie, Bryan Gillespie, Chris Hinds and Charles Wright, Jr.
