Mary Alice Johnson Reeves – Obituary

MaryMary Alice Johnson Reeves, 93, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014. She was born December 9, 1920. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley L. Johnson and Alice Johnson; her brothers, Arduth Johnson, Wiley Johnson, and her twin brother, James Alvin “Johnny Johnson.

Alice is survived by her son, Robert Reeves (Jacque) and her daughter, Paula Reeves; her grandchildren, Melody Reeves and Todd Reeves; stepgrandchildren, Leslie Kilgore (Randy) and Jeffrey Gray; and her little buddy, Cayce.

Alice was a graduate of Hillman Hospital in Birmingham and began her nursing career at Huntsville Arsenal, the predecessor of Redstone Arsenal. She then began a long career in nursing at Huntsville Hospital. In her 40-plus years of nursing, she worked as the head nurse in the ER, a floor supervisor, and numerous other responsibilities. Alice spent several years at Crestwood Hospital before she took a job at Doctor’s Hospital which became Woodland Medical Center.

During her time in Hanceville, Alice worked as a home health care nurse and became an accomplished painter. She loved to cook, write poetry, and she was an avid reader. Alice was everyone’s “Mom.”

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a service on Thursday, May 22 at Shelton Funeral Home in Decatur. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville immediately following the service.
