Mary Alice Johnson of Decatur was born in Luverne, Alabama, on March 6, 1927 and peacefully passed away after a long illness on April 26, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Taylor W. Shows and Alice Hill Shows; her husband, L.W. Johnson; and her grandson, Christopher Warren Martin. She was an Auburn University graduate and an avid Auburn football fan. She loved the beach and spent many vacations there with her friends and family. She also enjoyed volunteering at her church as well as her volunteer work at the soup kitchen. She made a difference in the lives of many people. The caregivers at Riverside Senior Living loved and respected her in so many ways and she was like a second Mother to many of them.

She is survived by her three daughters, Katherine Ingram (Ken), Susan Laing (David) and Jennifer Darnell (David); grandchildren, Jason Martin (Kathryne), Kathryn Day, Cassie Camp(Johnathon), Elizabeth Darnell, Taylor Darnell, Jasmine Ingram, Mallory Mangan (Mike) and Annie Marco (Bryan) as well as 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Thomas Warren Shows of Luverne.

Her favorite scripture was Isaiah 40:31, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” She will be honored and remembered at her memorial service on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Jeff Parker officiating. Family will receive guests one hour prior to the service.
