Marvin St. Clair Knight, III, 87, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on February 27 after a brief illness.

 

Marvin was born in Mobile, Alabama to Agnes and Marvin Knight, Jr. on April 21, 1937. He spent his youth in Tampa, Florida and Mobile and graduated from Murphy High School in 1955. He enrolled at the University of Alabama where he majored in Geology and became an iconic fan of Alabama sports. After graduating from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree, he went into federal service. After a brief assignment at the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center in St. Louis, Missouri, he and his wife, Donna, moved to Huntsville. He continued in federal service as a systems analyst for the Department of the Army on Redstone Arsenal, where he completed 57 years of service, until his retirement in May of 2021.

As the father of two sons, he was very active in youth sports, especially Little League and leadership at Mayfair Park.

 

Marvin is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Donna Shaddix Knight of Huntsville; son, Lee Knight (Alicia) of Cary, North Carolina; granddaughters, Macrae Knight, Nashville, Tennessee, Alana Burrough (Jim), Fayetteville, Tennessee, and Ainsley Knight, Cary, North Carolina; great- grandsons, Landen, Cason, Brycin, and Ayden; and great-granddaughter, Collins Burrough, all of Fayetteville, Tennessee; sister, Julia Daley (Pat), Coppel, Texas; and brother, Graham Forsythe (Rebecca), Mobile, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Knight Jr.; his mother, Agnes Forsythe; his stepfather, Robert Forsythe; his son, Marvin Knight IV; and his sister, Susan Knight.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.
