Marvin Kennedy was born on July 2, 1938 in Scotts Hill, Tennessee, the son of the late C.C. and Lena Grimsley Kennedy.
On July 25, 1964, he was united in marriage to Peggy Shannon, who preceded her husband in death on June 18, 2019.
Mr. Kennedy honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was a longtime resident of Saltillo, Tennessee and worked as a carpenter until his retirement. Marvin was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball and Memphis Grizzlies. He was an avid reader and liked to play cards and checkers. He also loved being outside, doing yardwork, and woodworking. Marvin was very strong in his faith and was a longtime member of Lebanon United Methodist Church and a recent member of Pinson Baptist Church. He was a Sunday School teacher, song leader, and director.
Marvin Kennedy departed this life on August 7, 2026 in Henderson, Tennessee, at the age of 88 years, 1 month, and 5 days.
He is survived by his son, Tony Ross (Kathy); daughter, Shannon Hearn (Barry); brothers, Fred Kennedy and Terry Kennedy; sisters, Carolyn Bowman and Donna Scott; grandchildren, Niesha Carpenter (Bubba), Tina Westbrooks (Bryan), Greg Ross (Katie), and Beth Plunk (Nicky); 17 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and special extended family, Terry Hearn, Nick Hearn (Heather), and their children.
In addition to his wife and parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his sister, Thelma Greenway and brother, Dale Kennedy.
