Martine Lebrun LaVasser – Obituary

Martine Lebrun LaVasser, wife and loving mother, passed away on March 15, 2015 at the age of 64. Martine was born in Liege, Belgium, and spent her childhood in the Belgian Congo with her parents Dr. Andre and Gabrielle Lebrun and one brother, Michael. After arriving in America as a young teenager, she attended Marquette University where she met her husband of 43 years, Gary LaVasser. Upon completing her master’s degree in education, she took great pride in working with kids of all ages focusing on children with special needs.
She enjoyed helping other people whether they were strangers within the community or friends. She was an active volunteer for the Committee on Church Cooperation (CCC) serving meals weekly for many years.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Gary LaVasser; two children, Andrew LaVasser and Tania Olive; five grandchildren, Connor Olive, Meghan Olive, Gabrielle Olive, Savannah LaVasser and Ethan LaVasser; and one brother, Michael Lebrun.
A memorial mass will be held Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to an organization dear to Martine’s heart, the Committee on Church Cooperation. Please direct donations to the CCC/Soup Kitchen at 119 1st Ave NE Decatur, AL 35601. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
