Martin Johnson – Obituary

MartinMr. Martin Johnson, 88, of Decatur died Tuesday, October 29th. at his residence.  His funeral will be Saturday, November 2nd. at 1:00 at Red Bank M.B. Church with Dr. Thomas R. Sparks Sr. officiating.  He will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born on March 16, 1925, the second child of the late Hubbard and Annie (Hill) Johnson.  Martin accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and joined Red Bank M.B. Church, where he was a faithful member of the Deacon board.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945 on the USS Bancraft (DD598) as a Stewards Mate 1/c V-6, USNR.

He leaves to cherish his memory:  a loving and devoted wife, Ola Mae (Stevenson) Johnson; his three children:  Willie (Thelma) Johnson of Town Crek, AL; Virginia (Cornelius) Stovall of Decatur,AL; Kirby (Dr. Shelis Nash) Stevenson of Madison, AL; One sister:  Archie Bee Bedingfield of Louisville, Ky; three sister-in-laws:  Jessie Pearl (Alvin) Barrett of Palm Coast, FL; Caroline (James) Bell of Wynn, AK; Jaqueline Freeman of Decatur, AL, Ethyl Abernathy and Victoria Stevenson both of Florence, AL, Lizzie Langham and Bertha Langham both of Town Creek,AL; one brother-in law;  Fred Freeman of Town Creek, AL.  He also leaves a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his children:  Shirley Harris, Jerry Steward, Dexter Stevenson; brothers:  Earl Johnson and Calvin Johnson; Sisters:  Eva Ashford and Lillie Mae Smith.
