Martin escapes murder conviction… Found guilty of manslaughter

James Christopher Martin – Convicted of Manslaughter

TUSCUMBIA – Closing arguments were held this morning in Colbert County Circuit Court in the murder trial of James Christopher Martin. He was accused in the shooting death of Thomas Grant Campbell.

After about an hour of deliberation,the jury returned its verdict, manslaughter. That was not what Colbert County District Attorney, Bryce Graham wanted, but that is what he got.

Evidently, the jury took stock in attorney Tim Case’s argument that Martin was acting in self defense. It wasn’t enough of an argument for an acquittal, but it kept 1st Degree Murder out of play.

The incident happened just over a year ago on 18th Court in Sheffield.
