The graveside service for Martha Rita Jones Medders, age 97 of Lineville, formerly of Anniston, will be held at 11:00 A.M. at Forest Lawn Gardens in Anniston with the Reverend Bill Brown officiating.
Mrs. Medders passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the Lineville Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a native of Clay County, a graduate of Bibb Graves High School and she completed cosmetology school in Birmingham. Mrs. Medders settled in Anniston in 1956 where she was the long-time owner and operator of Rita’s Beauty Shop. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Anniston, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and a talented artist who worked in both oils and watercolors.
Mrs. Medders is survived by one sister, Mavis Keahey of Ashland; one brother, Nathaniel Jones of Goldville plus two grandchildren: Kim and Chris and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph Nathaniel Jones and Eula Roberson Jones; her husband, Buddy Medders; her step-son, Buddy Medders Jr. and six brothers: Charlie, Arthur, Ervin, Otha, James Aron “Sarge” and John Winford Jones.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M.
