Martha O’Dell Mayes, age 87 of Estill Springs, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, at her residence. She was born in Lynchburg on July 10, 1934, to the late Roy and Maudie Mae (Allen) Noblitt. Before she retired, she was the owner and operator of Martha’s Beauty Center where she worked as a hairdresser. Martha was very artistic and enjoyed painting, making crafts, and singing. She was a talented seamstress, having even made the dress she will be buried in. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden and caring for animals. But most of all, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family and friends, especially enjoying delivering bread to all her neighbors at Christmas time. Martha was a dedicated member of Cowan First Baptist Church for sixty-seven years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William “Bill” Andrew Noblitt. Martha is survived by her loving and devoted husband of seventy-one years and seventeen days, Horace Mayes; brothers and sisters, Clarence “Pat” (Anita) Noblitt, and Nancy Duncan; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 12-2pm on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Cowan First Baptist Church with funeral services following at 2:00pm. Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
