Martha Joy Harrison Caldwell, 84 of Athens, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Athens Health and Rehabilitation. Martha Joy was born on July 5, 1939, in Lester, Al, to parents Nina Dee and Robert Amos Harrison.
Martha Joy is survived by her husband of 61 years Jack Caldwell; one daughter, Vickie Peterson (Garett); three sons, Dwight, Brian (Emily) and Scotty (Jackie) Caldwell; six grandchildren (Sheniqua Steele, Nick Peterson, Brigett Caldwell, Tabitha Baugher, Austin Doughty, and Elizabeth Caldwell); six great grandchildren (Dylan, Mason and Anna Grace Steele, Collin Peterson, Lilly Baugher, and Kaden Caldwell); and niece Pam Bates.
Martha Joy was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Helen Lounette Harrison Bates, and Tracy Steele (late husband of Sheniqua).
The funeral service for Martha Joy will be Tuesday, March 12, at 2:00 pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, with Ted Davis officiating. Visitation will also be Tuesday from 11:00 am to 1:50 pm. Burial will be at Hesters Chapel Cemetery in Lester, Al, after the funeral. Pallbearers will be Nick Peterson, Collin Peterson, Dylan Steele, Mason Steele, Marty Gambel, Cody Dobbins, and Tommy Cazier.
Jack will dearly miss his wife Martha Joy after all the good years together. Martha’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will miss their ‘Mot,’ ‘Mamaw’ and other loving, cute names from all the grandchildren. Martha Joy loved animals and her Calico cat will dearly miss her.
