Martha Jane Walls Mattox, 83, departed this life on Saturday, December 24, 2022 from Pontotoc Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Pontotoc Co. on October 28, l939 to the late Preston Walls and Velma Cruse Walls, Jane was educated in Algoma and Ecru Public Schools. She worked many years as a seamstress in the garment industry and retired from Air Cap Industries. Jane married the late Ed Mattox of Verona on Dec. 24, 1975 and made Brewer their home where they raised 3 children. Ed died May 30, 2016. Jane enjoyed her cell phone, facebooking, shopping thrift stores and spending time with family. Jane was a member of Verona Methodist Church, “Ma” loved doting over her grands and great grands.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Bro. Joe Dye officiating. Private burial will be at Lee Memorial Park in Verona. Visitation will be from 11 AM-service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Jane is survived by her children, Tammie Wilson (Randy) of Tupelo, Roxanne Rogers (Mike) of Brewer and Eddie Mattox of Chicago, IL; her 3 grandchildren, Mindy Ferguson, Donald Easterling (Kris) and Justin Rogers; her 3 great grandchildren, Bradley Easterling, Lestat Easterling and Mia Rogers. She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews . Jane is preceded in death by her parents Preston and Velma Cruse Walls; her husband, Ed Mattox; her siblings Charlotte Walls, Rex Walls, Lamar Walls, Waymon Taylor, Charlie Taylor and her twin sister Jean Walls Hunter who she missed terribly.
