Martha Jane Snipes – Obituary

Martha Jane Snipes, 73, of Toney, AL died on 7/16/2015 with her family beside her. Jane was born to the late Charlie and Adele Boswell February 2, 1942 in Lewisburg, Tn, lived briefly in Tullahoma, TN, but grew up in Huntsville. She married Mark A. Snipes October 4, 1982. where they lived in Huntsville briefly then relocated to the Alaskan Artic for several years but eventually moved to Fairbanks, AK where she lived for nearly two decades. Upon retiring as Director/Principal of the Fairbanks Montessori School she moved to Toney with her husband and their second oldest son to be close to her granchildren and family. Jane is survived by her husband, Mark, eldest son, Mark Edward Widner of Collierville, TN and his wife, Melissa, their second oldest son, Mark William Snipes and three granchildren, Anna, Austin and Alex Widner. Though Jane had many interest such as walking, hiking, backpacking, camping, and traveling. She was an insatiable reader, prolific writer, excellent cook and gardner. Yet, her foremost passion was children and they loved her because of this. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home with a chapel service to follow at 7:00 p.m. In place of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartlite Hospice Care, 304 South Market Street, Suite 200, Scottsboro, AL 35768 or the National Hospice & Palliative Care Org., 1731 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
