Her Life Story
Martha Frances Wilkerson Johnson was the ninth child born to the late Dudley and Elliott Wilkerson on May 10, 1929 in Lawrence County, Tennessee.
Martha received her early education at West Gaines Elementary School in Lawrenceburg and Bridgeforth High School in Pulaski, TN. She took coursework at Columbia State Community College.
In January 1954, Martha began her life with the late William Leslie Johnson in holy matrimony. From this union, 6 children were born.
Martha retired from domestic work with the late Dr. L.B. Malloy only to pursue a life dream of owning Martha’s Antiques and Collectibles.
Martha was baptized into Christ at the West Gaines Street Church of Christ by the late Dr. K.K. Mitchell, where she was a faithful member assisting youth and ladies. She and her husband instilled and supported Christian education by sending their children to Alabama Christian College, Southwestern Christian College, Lipscomb University and Freed-Hardeman University.
On Wednesday, March 12, 2014, Sister Martha Johnson slept into rest from this life at University Medical Center in Lebanon, TN. Martha was proceeded in death by one son, William Clay; five sisters: Dorothy McClain, Margaret Wilkerson, Mary C. Cleggett, Marie Sowell, and Helen Kendricks; three brothers: Horace, Felton, and John E. Wilkerson.
She leaves to cherish her memories, 6 Children, Mary K. (Frank) Woodson of Nashville; Randolph (Barbara) of Spring Hills, TN; Anthony (Katy) of Lebanon, TN; Michael (Mary) of Nashville, TN; Richard (Beverly) of Columbia, TN; Steven (Alvita) of Tupelo, MS and Patrick (Denise) of Lebanon, TN. 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Devoted friends: Elsie Bentley, Sis. Esther Sanford, Sis. Eula Stokes, Sis. Ida Sharfner and Bro. and Sis. Verleson Wesley. Special Nephew and Nieces: James (Curley Bumpus, Sr., Caressa Easley and Johnnie Maxine Simpson.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, March 14, 2014 at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 12:00 PM Saturday, March 15, 2014. Interment will follow at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, TN.
