Martha Ann LeCroix Whitt Roberts – Obituary

marthaMartha Ann LeCroix Whitt Roberts, of Decatur, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 11, 2015. Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Center Baptist Church. Rev. Ben Bates and Bro. Bobby Newman will officiate and Dr. Charles David LeCroix presenting a celebration of life. A visitation will be held one hour before the funeral service with internment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
Martha Ann LeCroix Roberts was born in Limestone County, Athens, Alabama on April 3, 1942. Her deceased parents are Thomas (Tom) Mabry LeCroix and Bertha O’dell Cobb LeCroix. Her only daughter, Deborah (Deb) Darlene Whitt also predeceased her on January 2, 2000. Her predeceased siblings were Charlie Thomas LeCroix, Mahlon Atha LeCroix, Era Mae LeCroix Parker, Milton (Buddy) LeCroix, and Mary Jane LeCroix Locke.
Martha is survived by sons, Keith Roberts (Tammi) and Jim Roberts (Pam); grandsons, Adam Roberts, Garrett Roberts, and Drew Johns; foster son, Michael LeCroix and his children, Amanda and Luke LeCroix. She is also survived by three siblings, Florence Irene LeCroix Russell (Matthew), Catherine Evelyn LeCroix Riethmaier, and Joseph (Joe) H. LeCroix (Deb).
Martha attended Harvest and Reid Elementary Schools and graduated from Tanner High School in 1960. She attended George Wallace College where she received a Business Administration Degree in 1968. Martha will be greatly missed by loved ones and friends, as she loved to help others any way she could.
She worked for Blue Bell Packing Co., Mutual Savings Life Insurance Co., the Army Missile Command during the Vietnam War. She owned her business, Martha Robert’s Florist and Bridal Shoppe on Danville Road for 15 years, as a Bridal Consultant for Dillard’s Dept. Store, and as the Woman’s Dept. Manager and Consultant for Caster-Knott. She worked for General Motors/Saginaw/Delphi for 22 years and retired from the Bowling Green, Kentucky Corvette plant in 2004.
Martha was a Christian, and was baptized at Poplar Creek Baptist Church in Limestone County, by her brother-in-law, Rev. Matthew Russell in 1952. As a member of Round Island Baptist Church, she taught a Sunday school class. She moved to Decatur in 1961. She later was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Parkview Baptist Church, and New Center Baptist Church.
Martha was a loving wife of 52 years to her beloved husband Doyle Roberts, who died July 12, 2012. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister to nine siblings. She was the family care giver for nine different members of her family.
Martha’s third love of her life, after God and her family was her “Genealogy Research,” which she began in 1965. After retiring in 2004, she wrote and published her family history into books. Some of the family history books are The LaCroix-LeCroix-Lecroys, The Cobbs-Cobb, The Schrimshers, The Comptons, The Vickerys, The Peck-Peek-Peaks, The Sellers, The Greshams-Grishams-Grissoms. These books are full of our American history back to the immigration to America.
Pallbearers will be Gene Russell, Jimmy Walker, Frankie Roberts, Bill Parker, Pat Halbrooks, and Dr. Charles D. LeCroix.
The family would like to thank the Angels from Hospice of North Alabama and the WINGS (Women in God’s Service) of New Center Baptist Church, and a special thanks to all of her neighbors, friends, and family that helped with her care during her illness.
