Martha Ann Cooley King Martha Ann Cooley King, age 92, of Arab, Alabama passed away at Marshall Medical Center North in Guntersville, Alabama. Martha was born September 30, 1930 oldest daughter of Authur Cooley and Nora Alexander Cooley. Martha was the elder of seven children. Martha was a part of the “greatest generation.” She was a young child and teenager during the Great Depression, Dust Bowl and World War II: some of the most impactful historical events of the century. These events influenced what she did, how she lived, what she did for fun and so much more. She learned early what is important in life: Those things being family, God, church, country and nature.
Martha was married to Robert R. “Bobby” King. The two of them spent many happy years together until his death in June of 1989. The two of them would often be found enjoying the outdoors and nature by camping out at one of their favorite locations, Choccolocca in the Talladega National Forest. Martha was extremely patriotic. She attended and supported local programs and memorial services as long as her health allowed it. Martha also had artistic talent. She was an incredible artist and created many beautiful oil paintings. She also displayed a remarkable musical talent by playing the dulcimer. And one cannot forget the homemade pear preserves she canned each season!
Family members left behind to cherish Martha’s memories include: children, Steve King, Mike King (Patsy), and Jeff King (Angie); grandchildren, Jim, Jon, Jared and Shannon; great grandchildren, Ridge and Abigail; special friends and caregivers, David Coker, Betty Pope, Candy and Shannon; a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Martha is preceded in death by: husband, Bobby King, parents, Authur and Nora Cooley, siblings, Curtis, Hershel, Bill, Robert, Marie and Margaret.
Services for Martha will be held at Shoal Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, August 27, 2023. Visitation will be between the hours of 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. The funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Shoal Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers escorting Martha to her final resting place will be Jim King, Jon King, Jared Tipton, Randall Cooley, David Coker and Tony Cooley.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
