Martha Alice McWilliams Wheat – Obituary

Mrs. Martha Alice McWilliams Wheat, born October 1, 1931 in Missouri, passed this life at the age of 87, May 1, 2019 at home in Huntsville, Alabama. Martha met and married the love of her life at First Christian Church in Carthage, they were members together at Huntsville Christian Church where they raised their three children. Martha loved the Lord and all his little children so she taught Sunday school and VBS, volunteered at Ridgecrest Elementary, Mountain Gap, and Grissom High. She along with her husband of 66 years, Mark “Coach” Wheat spent many a night at little league fields cheering on his 7-8 year old football teams.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Avis McWilliams of Carthage and two brothers, Robert Lee and Kenneth. She will be missed most by her husband, Mark Wheat and her family; sister, Barbara Pendleton (Warren); sister-in-law, Mary McWilliams (Kenneth); children, Janice Henderson (Herb), Timothy Wheat (Judy), Amy Vandergrift (Eddie); grandchildren, Aaron, Michelle, Phoebe, Ray, Rachel, James, and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Brooke, Brecken, Malei, Braedyn, Gemma, Seth, Mia, Tre’, Lily, Elizabeth, and one precious baby yet to be born.
Martha was highly esteemed and loved by her dear friends and we are very thankful for all that they have done for our precious mother. We will lay her body to rest during a graveside service at Maple Hill Cemetery, Friday, May 3 at 12 noon. There will be a time of visitation with the family at Laughlin Service Funeral Home following the burial 1 to 3 p.m. for those who wish to pay their respects.
